Husband and I have been going from Sobradinho to Lage dos Negros on every Thursday now for a couple of months. After making the trip in the old Pajero several times, the poor thing needed some work. One fine day we decided to take our boys' sand rail/dune buggy.
We actually made better time and enjoyed the new way to go. Little kids actually come running out of their houses to wave at us when we come roaring by each week! The Volkswagon engine has a mean sound.
This past Thursday we were a little doubtful about going in the sand rail on the mostly dirt roads. It had rained heavily in Sobradinho earlier in the week and we had heard that most of our area got rain. Dirt roads + rain = mud! And yes, there was a plenty.
Our new record time of 2 1/2 hours ended up getting slashed. Our trip took closer to 4 hours and coming back we ended up in the dark. Darkness on muddy roads was not much fun. Lots more animals were in the road drinking out of all those puddles, too! Nonetheless we made it home just fine.
