Motorcycle Adventure - Part Two

After meeting up with our world traveling son and daughter-in-law in Rio Azuis, Toncantins, we were ready to start our five-day adventure with them.  But first, a swim!

We found out two things that William and Kerri will stop for even in a hurry - a good swimming hole and frozen Açaí!  William, Kerri and Byron had already checked out the swimming in the blue waters of our little campground the night before.

I waited for the clarity of the morning and jumped in with Kerri before we headed off for what lied ahead to get back to Sobradinho in the few days she had before needing to fly home.  William and Kerri had already been on the road for more than two months and time was ticking for them to get back to jobs and life in the USA.  We met up with them on a Wednesday night.  They really wanted to get to Sobradinho by Sunday.

We had high hopes of getting as far along as possible on our route and to have time to see the sights around the UNESCO World Heritage site of Capivara in Piaui.

We really needed to make some time and miles, but it was super-hot and people do get hungry along the way.

William and Kerri ride a 2014 KTM Adventure R 790.  We ride a 2013 Honda XRE 300.  We are not quite the adventure riders that they are, but we did our best to keep up, even when Google surprised us with a nice dirt road with a little bit of sand.  Yes, I was not happy to see more dirt and sand.

But we made it, slowly at first!  And later that afternoon we found the coolest little snack bar in the middle of nowhere, and just in the nick of time as I was sure I was going to die of heat exhaustion and thirst.  We almost asked if we could camp right there beside their clean bathroom!
But we waited and a little later we found a great wild camp spot.

That was the longest day ever, or so it seemed, but we all slept well and headed out again early the next morning.  We were still a good ways from the UNESCO World Heritage park, but we had made progress.  It was the end of our first day out with the world travelers.  Little did we know that the longest day had just begun that next morning.

Stay tuned for Part Three in the next few days!
